One balance, every chain

In shortOne dollar balance, spendable on any coin on any chain, no gas tokens, no bridges. It lives in wallets only you control.

On The Hill you have one balance, in dollars, and you can spend it on any coin on any chain we support. You never need to hold SOL or ETH for gas, you never bridge anything, and you never see a seed phrase.

Here's what's actually happening underneath, because it matters.

It's your money, in your wallets

When you sign in, wallets are created for you in the background, one for Solana and one for the Ethereum-style chains. Only you can move what's in them. The Hill can't, and neither can anyone who breaks into The Hill. This is called being non-custodial, and it's the opposite of how an exchange works.

Your balance is the dollar value of the stablecoins (USDC) sitting across those wallets, shown as one number.

Deposits

Pay by card, or send crypto to your deposit address. Either way it lands as USDC and shows up in your balance within a minute or two.

Buying

  • Same chain as your money: a normal swap. Our 1.5% fee is taken inside the trade. We pay the network fee for you.
  • Different chain: your USDC is moved across and swapped in one go, usually in a few seconds. You see one Buy button and one confirmation. The small cost of the hop is shown in the quote.

the coinBase
  1. Your USDC on Solana is moved to Base by Relay, in a few seconds.
  2. Swapped for the coin on Base, our 1.5% inside the swap.
  3. The hop costs a few cents, shown in the quote.
  4. Gas is paid by us on Base.

You see one button and one confirmation either way. Your balance is the same USDC afterwards, just on Base, and a sell lands back in it.

Selling

A sell lands as USDC on that coin's chain, which is already part of your one balance. Nothing to bridge back.

Withdrawing

Withdraw to any address you like. If your money is spread across chains, it's gathered to the chain you chose.

Gas

We pay the network fees on Solana, Base and Robinhood Chain. They're a fraction of a cent to a few cents per trade, and they come out of our side of the fee.

Ethereum is the exception. A swap on Ethereum mainnet costs real money in gas (often a dollar or more), so on Ethereum the gas is shown in the quote and taken out of the trade. You still never need to hold ETH.

Why we built it this way

The easy way to do "one balance" is to keep everyone's money in one big account and run a ledger. That makes the platform a custodian, a single point of failure holding everyone's funds. We'd rather every user keep control of their own wallet and do the extra engineering to make it feel like one balance anyway.

Memecoins can go to zero. The Hill shows you what's on the chain; what you do with it is yours. Risk warning
